FTP - File Transfer Protocol
This software is commonly used to transfer files from point A to point B. Individuals often don't have ftp servers, usually only companies and website have them. In our case we have our own ftp access to the pvm site which means you can upload your images, mp3s or any other type of media you have.

[edit] Download & Installation
As with every software you're going to need to download the file to your desktop and install it. I prefer this company's software and have purchased a license for the legal use of it. Everyone has their own preferences when it comes to ftp clients. Please read below on a list of recommended clients.
[edit] Recommended Clients
I personally use Flash FXP which I've purchased the license for. There are various different ftp clients out there, they all work, you can't really go wrong.
Here are some other ftp clients:
[edit] Configuration
Most ftp clients work in the same way. In order to be able to use it, you need to enter an IP or host, and then a username and password. Once that's entered, all ftp clients have a 'connect' button or something of the same functionality. For our site, we have specific ftp information that has to be used in order to be able to connect to the site. As with all access information for our site, you have to be registered and logged into the site in order to load the above mentioned link.
[edit] General Usage Tips
The idea behind ftp programs is to transfer files. Nowadays too many people are in the habit of sending large digital pictures via email, or mp3's and realistically that's not what email is intended for. Email is intended for textual communication and transfer of large files is both tedious for the sender and of course for the recipient. If the recipient is on a slow connection, downloading several digital pictures that were attached to an email can take a long time. That's why it's a good idea to use ftp for any transaction that's intended as a transfer of data, not emails.
Now that you know how to use an ftp program, you can upload pictures to our gallery.
